October 15, 2025
On October 15, during the Make America Healthy Again Kentucky Taskforce meeting in Frankfort, KHA Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and Policy Jim Musser testified alongside Appalachian Regional Healthcare President Hollie Harris and Kentucky Department of Agriculture Commissioner Jonathan Shell regarding the Food is Medicine Initiative.
The group described the program to get more locally grown, healthy foods served within hospitals and to further develop food-based interventions for patients such as medically tailored meals and produce prescription programs.
In addition, they stressed how this initiative can positively impact the well-being of hospital employees, who work long, stressful hours.
Musser noted, “We’ve moved beyond the pilot phase of this program. We are looking now at how to make it scalable.”
